CGI is delighted to be sponsoring a big data challenge in the internationally recognised Copernicus Masters competition. This is Europe’s leading innovation competition for the commercial use of Earth observation (EO) data in everyday life. The competition is underpinned by the European Commission (EC) and the European Space Agency (ESA). CGI has a long history of working with both organisations on their major EO programmes including Copernicus.

Copernicus Masters CGI’s competition challenge is to find innovative ideas  which use Copernicus data to create new applications and services that address key business problems in the commercial sector. This could be for sectors such as energy, utilities, financial services, insurance, agriculture and transport.

The competition is open for applications from 1st April 2017 to 30th June 2017. A panel of EO and business experts from CGI will then evaluate the entries over the summer to select a winner. The winner will work with CGI and will also receive data and business development support from EC and ESA. The CGI challenge winner will also compete with the other challenge winners to be the overall winner. All winners will be announced at a gala awards ceremony in November 2017.

CGI is excited to work with SMEs and universities to help them progress their ideas to commercial success. We will support them with CGI’s global footprint, our multiple business and IT activities in the public and commercial market sectors and our deep space expertise. We look forward to introducing their ideas to potential clients and also using CGI’s technical expertise to support moving the ideas from prototype to scalable and secure architectures ready for commercial services.
