Covid-19 has changed nearly every aspect of life as we know it. These are unprecedented times, however, we are fortunate that technology facilitates the creation of a ‘new normal’ for many of us, and allows us to adapt - rather than cease - our working practices.

The recruitment process in the UK is no exception. It’s “business as usual” for us - albeit working remotely from home for the majority of us - and that includes interviews; we are still hiring!

If you’re part-way through the recruitment process, or are considering applying for a role with us, we hope this post helps to offer some guidance as to how we are adapting to conducting online interviews at CGI.

What happens during an online interview?

Well, on the whole, an online interview is no different to a standard interview, except for the obvious - that we’ll be ‘meeting’ via video conferencing technology instead of face-to-face.

The online interview will be conducted via Webex by one of our members - most likely your future manager or one of our key hiring managers from across the business. Your recruiter will send you a Webex link to access the online interview, with some instructions on how to set yourself up and the option of a ‘dry-run’ should you require it.

You can expect your online interview to last between 30-90 minutes.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance for my online interview?

As with any job interview, please ensure you have read the job specification fully in advance, and come armed with any materials you have been asked to prepare.

Some of our interviews require you to share a presentation, but you will be notified in plenty of time if this is the case. You can also test everything works during your optional dry-run if you need to.

We also encourage all candidates to read our recruitment brochure before their interview to find out more about CGI.

What should I wear for my online interview?

As a guide, we generally advise to dress smart-casual. Think first dates - your formal finery is not necessary!

When will I find out if I’ve been successful?

Ordinarily, it takes a week or two formalise a job offer if you are successful, but in some instances this may be lengthened due to Covid-19. Please be assured we will keep you updated throughout, and will let you know as soon as a decision has been made.

When can I expect to start my new role if I am successful
  at interview?

Successful candidates will join us within the standard timeframe (which is normally determined by your notice period from your current employer), and we have now moved to digital onboarding. This means you will be able to start exactly the same way as you would in normal circumstances - but just from home!

We hope this has helped to answer some of the questions you may have around the online interview process and alleviate any interview nerves you may have. If there is anything else we can help you with in advance of your online interview, please contact your recruiter.

Don’t forget to check out our recruitment brochure before your interview. And best of luck!
