CGI (NYSE: GIB) (TSX: GIB.A) is pleased to announce it has been awarded a new digital transformation contract to develop the Nuclear Emergency Radiological Information and Monitoring Network (NERIMNET), a project delivered by the Department for Business, Energy, Innovation and Skills (BEIS) and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Continuing the long-term successful involvement of CGI with the UK Government around nuclear resilience, the BEIS and MoD legacy systems will be replaced with a solution designed to better support the UK’s monitoring and incident response capabilities.

Response to radioactive incidents in the UK has traditionally been managed separately for defence-related incidents and civilian incidents, supported by separate legacy systems. Based on open source technology, CGI will replace the two existing systems with a single new cloud-based NERIMNET solution that will support both civilian and defence-related response to radioactive incidents.

CGI’s solution will deliver greater operational effectiveness and efficiency through a modern, user-centric designed application, offering a lower cost of ownership as well as flexibility and scalability. Taking an agile approach, the programme will enable users from both civilian and defence response teams to identify common processes, procedures and user-centric functionality to support their operations.

For NERIMNET, CGI has teamed up with small and medium enterprises Ultra Electronics Nuclear Control Systems, Envitia and APD.

Michael Herron – Vice President of Central Government, CGI in the UK, said: “NERIMNET is an exciting and important project that we’re extremely proud to play a key role in delivering. CGI’s continuous investment in digital skills and innovation, combined with our wealth of experience working with UK Government, will deliver significant benefits to NERIMNET as we create a new, modern application to revolutionise radiological protection in the UK.”
