The FindMyPatient app, developed by UCLH and CGI, helps to save time as doctors are able to view results and track where in the hospital patients have been moved to using an iOS app on their mobile phones
CGI (TSX: GIB.A) (NYSE: GIB) worked with clinicians and the ICT team at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH) to develop a mobile iOS app that is able to securely display a variety of imaging and pathology results, as well as locating the patient’s bed within the hospital. Hospital patients sometimes need to be moved to a different ward or area due to clinical requirements or for practical reasons. The FindMyPatient app means that doctors no longer need to locate patients using printed information from hospital terminals or by calling wards to find where their patients have been moved to.
Richard Cohen, Colorectal Consultant added: “I’ve been using FindMyPatient for the last few months and have found that it has made a real difference to my ability to access information on my patients. The app is a great example of how well-conceived IT can help clinicians balance the pressures of modern healthcare. One of the great advantages is that I can use the app outside the hospital to review the patients under my care, which was previously complicated. The app is a real step forward in facilitating patient care.”
Over the past three months, FindMyPatient has been tested as a pilot at UCLH. The app will save valuable time by providing a list of patients and their locations in real-time, while also reducing reliance on paper records. Feedback from the pilot programme indicates that the app can save time previously spent tracking patients’ results and movements. During the pilot phase, users commented that the app could save them up to an hour a day.
FindMyPatient also provides doctors with important information about their patients, including allergies, flagging alerts, test results, and imaging reports via their mobile device thanks to extensive systems integration and interoperability with UCLH’s various clinical applications.
“In a critical-care environment, time is of the essence and saving valuable minutes to physically locate patients and their records can make a huge difference to patient outcomes. Hospitals that adopt the FindMyPatient app will be able to save time and improve efficiency, making more time available to treat patients,” commented Ed Percy, CGI VP, Healthcare.
The FindMyPatient app has been designed to simply and efficiently integrate with CGI’s e-CareLogic clinical electronic records system which is in use at UCLH, as well as other healthcare IT systems. CGI plans to make the app available to the wider UK healthcare industry.
