In partnership with CGI, the Police Foundation has established the Strategic Review of Policing in England and Wales which sets out to examine how crime, fear of crime and other threats are changing rapidly and assesses the ability of the police to meet these challenges to public safety.

The review aims to set a long-term strategic vision for English and Welsh policing and is being chaired by Sir Michael Barber and an Advisory Board of senior police officers, politicians and leading academics.

With the police service facing the rising challenges of 21st century crime, the review will explore the police mission, their workforce and capabilities, and how they will need to adapt overtime. What should their role be in order to protect the public? Should they be more proactive and preventative in their work?

These are some of the types of questions being explored in this Strategic Review, particularly with the nature of the police role and policing mission seeing increasing pressures to adapt and change to play its role in keeping society safe.

The report is the first in a series of Insight Papers which will conclude in summer 2021 with a final report on the recommendations for modern police service to meet the 21st century challenges. CGI look forward to continue its work with the Police Foundation with a follow up report on phase one which will be published in June 2020.
