New 7 year agreement to deliver IT infrastructure to help the Trust improve the quality of care for Service Users, enable better ways of working and expand its geographical boundaries

CGI, a leading provider of information technology and business process services today announced that the Solent NHS Trust has chosen CGI to refresh the Trust’s IT infrastructure and better equip the Trust’s 4200 employees to communicate and collaborate both internally and with external partners. CGI will be providing a new hosted flexible infrastructure including desktop and mobile computing solutions, a unified communications platform and a wide area network for the Trust across 130 sites.

The agreement will, among other things, see CGI accelerate the Trust’s strategy to make services more accessible for service users and health professionals. Improvements will see nurses who work in the community being able to capture and access patient notes through mobile working devices such as encrypted laptops.

Patients’ carers will have even more and faster ways to contact the Trust, thereby improving quality and efficiency of services through a secure and business resilient infrastructure.

Solent NHS Trust is one of the largest providers of community and mental healthcare in the UK and supports people living in Southampton, Portsmouth and parts of Hampshire. The Trust ran a competitive Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) process to find a strategic ICT partner to provide the flexible IT services needed to underpin the Trust’s ambition to expand its reach and deliver better care to service users.

“We are in the final stage of assessment to become a Foundation Trust and we need world class IT to allow for innovation and to be sufficiently robust to cope with organisational and structural change. As such we selected an IT provider with proven experience of the healthcare industry,” said Dr Ros Tolcher, Chief Executive of Solent NHS Trust. “CGI is able to offer us the flexible services that will save our clinicians time and, in turn, help us better support our service users.”

“CGI delivers services that help to transform and modernise the delivery of healthcare services both in the UK and around the world,” said Paula Sussex, Senior Vice President of Public Sector at CGI in the UK. “We will be bringing this expertise to the Solent NHS Trust to support its focus on delivering the best possible services to the local community.”

CGI will provide on-site support in Southampton and Portsmouth and shared services from its South Wales offices including its award winning 5 star service desk*.

* 5-star certification by the Service Desk Institute (SDI) for CGI’s UK service desk.
